Welcome back maple

This story follows Maple Mehta-Cohen, a fifth grader who struggles with reading and tries to hide it from everyone. When she has to repeat the year, Maple worries about losing her friends and makes up a story to protect herself. As she faces new friendships and her reading challenges, she begins to recognise her strengths and accept her brain just as it is.

Why it helps: This book helps children understand dyslexia and the shame some children feel when reading is difficult. It shows that struggling at school does not mean someone is not clever, and encourages self-acceptance, honesty, confidence, and the recognition of personal strengths.
